Excerpts from our exclusive interview with her:
Q1) Tell us a little bit about yourself & your career journey please ;
I am an Electronics and Communication engineer turned Management Consultant. Currently working with KPMG in India as an SAP Analyst. Having done about 20+ internships in the management domain, I discovered my love for it and decided to transition to a techno-functional field. My interests lie in public speaking, content writing, podcasting, and mentoring.
Q2) What inspired you to take up mentoring?
I have always been passionate about mentoring. In my first year of engineering, I started volunteering for a national-level NGO called Make a difference as an academic support volunteer. I taught science and English to class 9th and 10th. Teaching these underprivileged children and being able to create an impact in their life eventually pushed me into the field of mentoring.
Q3) Your area of expertise in mentorship?
My individual mentoring sessions at Dhairyadecodes are aimed at helping freshers and professionals upskill themselves and carve a better career path for themselves.
My major area of expertise in mentoring lies in :
- 1) Resume Building
- 2) LinkedIn Profile Building
- 3) Career Guidance
- 4) Job Interview Preparation
- 5) Public Speaking & Communication skills
- 6) Podcasting tips & tricks
Q4) How did you build the skill of always speaking so engagingly in front of others?
Well, to be honest, the art of public speaking and gaining that level of confidence did not come overnight. I was a part of toastmasters international for 3 years during my engineering. That club taught me a lot of things with respect to sentence structure, vocabulary, voice modulation, body language, eye contact, audience engagement techniques, etc.
Every week I used to witness and participate in speech contests and extempore speeches. These experiences and my recent venture with Mitti Ke Rang and FIFO Talks where I am a podcast and talk show host have helped me become comfortable with speaking in crowds and engaging with them easily.
Q5) Which leadership skills were the most difficult to develop?
For me the most difficult leadership skills to develop would have to be empathy and being able to receive feedback in the right sense.
Today it is the most tedious job to understand what runs through another individual’s mind and to put yourself in their shoes. A leader is known for being able to empathize with their team.
Feedback when given by people is often not taken in a positive stride. A leader must be able to take criticism constructively.
Q6) How many hours a day do you work on average & can you describe/outline your typical day?
Typically I work for almost 16-18 hours a day. My day starts with gratitude, to be able to do all that I am doing. My office hours start around 10 AM and I get done with most of my activities there by 7 PM, post which I spend some time with my family, mentor students, and take webinars and sessions on various platforms.
Q7) What Are Your Hobbies and Interests?
My hobbies include dancing, traveling, listening to music, and podcasting. I really enjoy content writing, content creation, public speaking, and mentoring.
Q8) What are your strengths & weakness?
My strengths include multitasking, time management, teamwork, dedication, and persistence. My weaknesses include, never being satisfied and always striving for more. Another one would be trying to keep everyone around me happy at all times.
Q9) Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Well, this lockdown has taught me one thing you never know what can happen to you the next moment. I have started building small milestones for myself to reach one end goal. 10 years from today I could be running my own company or being a YouTuber, or still be working. However no matter what I do, my goal is to be happy, do what I love doing, and be among the best in that field.
Q10) What comes first for you, money or emotions?
For me personally, emotions will always overpower money. Being content and happy at the end of the day and not hurting anybody and keeping in mind their emotions are what matters to me. Emotions can never be replaced by money.
Q11) Tell us about your early life & How has being a mentor affected your family life?
My early life in engineering was spent exploring my areas of interest. I had the opportunity to intern with various companies and startups in the management domain. I was working on upskilling myself and transitioning from electronics and communication engineering to entering the management field.
Being a mentor has not only helped me empathize better, and understand problems faced by students, but has also enabled me to contribute to and shape someone’s career path. Mentoring to me is a divine gift and I will forever be grateful for it.
My personal life has surely been affected with respect to not being able to spend quality family time on weekends, as most of my time is spent on mentoring. However, the feeling of being able to help others and carve their career path is what keeps me going. No other major impacts have occurred.
Q12) What advice would you give to a young person with confidence issues?
For anyone who has been low on confidence feared speaking in public or just been insecure, I just have two small pieces of advice for you. Firstly, start believing in yourself and understand that you are unique, comparison will not help you. Secondly, incorporate consistency and hard work in everything that you do, these things will help you build confidence and excel in every area of your life.
