Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Akshay Dipali:
Q1) Tell us a little bit about your start-up and your journey, please;
I’ve been a victim of bad culture previously and so I feel extremely passionate about this problem. This is an age-old problem that has been lingering around and it has naturalized itself to a point that for a lot of people, it’s just how ‘Work’ works. And since Covid, it has gotten even crazier with burnout and attrition. I knew there has to be a solution that caters to each individual employee at scale. That led me to marry Psychology & Technology with Culture which gave birth to Nasch.
Q2) What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?
There’s no 1 reason really. It’s a culmination of many things that attracted me to this. I worked in corporate for a year and hated it. Most of the organizations are designed to attract cogs in their machines. I never wanted to be that. I was always a problem solver. So being through that rather short corporate rut was enough for me to pursue entrepreneurship.
Q3) How did you come up with the name for your business/startup?
Nasch is a combination of 2 names John NASH (A pioneer in Game Theory) and Solomon ASCH (A Pioneer in Social Psychology). We felt it’s a good representation of what we are all about.
Q4) What service(s) or product(s) do you offer/manufacture?
We help organizations diagnose, analyze & solve people’s problems like employee engagement, attrition, motivation, turnover, etc. using AI & Psychology.
Q5) Why should people choose your product/services?
We give them a holistic, science-based approach to solving people’s problems.
Q6) Did pandemic (COVID 19) affect your business? if yes how?
Being in the employee engagement space, covid actually accelerated our business. The product was timely. Since we were helping organizations build happy workplaces, many CXOs were receptive to what we had to provide.”
Q7) Have you considered any alliance/partnership/funding?
We have raised some funding at a valuation of $2.5M. We will be focusing on hiring key roles and outreach.
Q8) What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?
The best way to manage fear is by action. Whatever you’re afraid of, acting on the solution will get you beyond it. I think Action will help anyone not just manage but overcome their fears.
Q9) Tell us about your early life & How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?
It surely gets hard in the beginning as all your focus in the waking state goes to your startup. You see so many failures every day that sometimes you forget to smile and think of quitting. This emotion permeates throughout the family. So I’ve made it a point to separate these things so that one doesn’t affect the other and this is one of the best decisions I ever made.
Q10) What piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs??
- Know what makes you tick and follow that intuition into a passion.
- Life is about balance. Don’t overdo anything, including work. Spend time reading, going out with friends, hanging out with family, working a little, helping others, taking a vacation every now and then, and watching a good show/movie. It’s all about the balance.
- Have a confidante with whom you can share everything. It could be a mentor, spouse, or best friend. Entrepreneurship is a lonely journey. You need to get someone by your side.
