Excerpts from our exclusive interview with him:
Q1) Tell us a little bit about your startup and your journey, please;
I have over 25 years of experience in IT, most of which are with Learning and Development and general operations. I had started my career as a technical trainer and during my career had been in roles like – Training Management, Technical Support, Pre-sales, Delivery, Learning and Development Management, Competency Development, Recruitment, Budgeting, Asset Management, Space Planning, and Capacity Management. I am very passionate about training. Throughout my career, I have facilitated 400+ classes covering 8 thousand plus participants. Let me share a fascinating fact about me.
I had been a very introverted person till my graduation days. Once, I was asked to recite a poem in a small gathering of my parent’s office colleagues and their families. After the first two lines, I froze and could not speak a single word. If that person can become a successful trainer and speaker, it clearly shows if you have will and determination, you can do anything and everything in Life. My last organization was Accenture Solutions, where I own the “Capability and Competency Development”, “Budget”, “Asset Management”, “Capacity Planning”, “Employee Engagement and Retention” for one business vertical in India. I have quit my job in February 2020 and emerged as
- Freelance Leadership Development Coach, Mentor. I am the First Leadership Coach in India exclusively for the people working in the IT Industry. Why only for the IT Industry? Because I can leverage my tremendous experiences for the junior to mid-level managers to move to the next level in their career. I have a couple of courses in Udemy on Leadership Development space and also got a book published. The name of the book is “From Manager to Leader – The Secret of the Journey”, which is available on Amazon (Kindle version) and Flipkart (paperback version).
- I also offer a unique service called “Genetic Brain Profiling”, which is based on the concept of “Dermatoglyphic”. This concept is each of our hand fingerprints relates to one part of our brain. For example, the right-hand thumb is mapped with Life Pre-Frontal lobe. Here using the fingerprint scan, we can accurately subject and educational stream potential (for children) and career potential and career track selection (for adults). Also, even the corporates can use this facility and report to understand the right potential of their employees and future employees (before issuing the offer letter) so that the right person is deployed for the right type of job (who is good at technology work, who will tend to leave the organization within a short period of time, who is a good team player, etc.)
Q2) How did the idea for your business come about?
During my corporate career, I have found that most of the junior and mid-level managers do not get proper guidance to excel in their careers. The key reason is – today, most of the IT organizations (till the topmost level) are filled with people who have a “Manager” mind-frame. We hardly found a true Leader at a senior position. Personally, I had to struggle a lot during my career. I was lucky to get one great Leader as my supervisor, from whom I have learned a lot.
So, I found that most of the junior to mid-level managers and even often senior-level managers will be immensely benefited if I can share my experience and journey with them and help them to move as a Leader. The primary objective is to provide help and support, which I had not got as I would expect.
My second line of service is Genetic Brain Profiling. When I got my profiling done, I was shocked to see the accurateness of the report and at my age, understood my IKIGAI, why am I the way I am, and also my strength, career preference, and many more. Genetic Brain Profiling is a must for everyone till the age of 50!
Q3) What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?
The critical driving force is to help and care about the people. Share my knowledge, experience, and expertise to handhold the IT employees to become successful. I have cared for my team members, worked along with them to make them successful. I firmly believe that a Manager helps their employees to achieve what they are expected to do, while a Leader helps their team to achieve which they had never thought of achieving, but they should achieve. Similarly, using Genetic Brain Profiling, I am here to serve people to know and understand their IKIGAI.
Q4) How did you come up with the name for your business/startup?
Both Leadership Coaching and Genetic Brain Profiling is based on our Brain. What I do is to help my client to understand and fulfill their dream in Life using the knowledge of the Brain. That is the reason we came with the idea – OWN YOUR DREAM – BRAIN GYAN.
Q5) What service(s) do you offer?
I offer two key services as below:
Also, even the corporate can use this facility and report to understand the right potential of their employees and future employees (before issuing the offer letter) so that the right person is deployed for the right type of job (who is good at technology work, who will tend to leave the organization within a short period of time, who is a good team player, etc.)
Q6) Why should people choose your product?
One key challenge for the employees is the other mentors or coaches are not exclusively for the folks belongs to the IT industry. For Leadership Coaching and Mentoring, because of my 25+ years of experience, I am the best person to help my clients. Another benefit of engaging with me is – I have worked in various segments in the IT industry, which means, I have experience in different verticals of the industry.
For Genetic Brain Profiling, getting help at the right time is essential. I am approachable, and that is the reason I would be the best person to support.
Q7) How do you market your business, and which tactics have been most successful?
My line of business strongly depends on my personal brand. I am using different social media channels to build my brand. My key focus area is LinkedIn to create a funnel. Low cost Webinars and online trainings to attract them to my funnel. Except for social media, I use cold e-mails to develop my personal brand-building exercise.
Q8) What risks are you facing?
For Genetic Brain Profiling, awareness is the major challenge. We still have faith and believe in non-factual elements rather than focusing on pure science. When we see someone who got the scan done and got the “WOW” moment, then only we believe.
Q9) Did pandemic (COVID 19) affected your business? if yes how?
Yes, there is an impact, not for the Leadership Coaching and mentoring, but for the Genetic Brain Profiling segment. The reason is for Genetic Brain Profiling, I need to meet the client in person to take their fingerprint scan. This is difficult during this current scenario.
Q10) What are your responsibilities as the business owner?
My crucial responsibility is to support and nurture people. As a business owner, my objective is to help people to discover their potential and be there along with them so that they get what they are deserved to get.
Q11) How many hours a day do you work on average & can you describe/outline your typical day?
Unlike working for a corporate, now, I have time freedom. I enjoy what I am doing every day, every moment. I do not keep a watch on the time.
Q12) What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?
That’s a difficult question. As an individual, I am not a fearful person. But as you insist, my greatest fear is, many of my fellow people are not taking action to know their key potential and not trying to take action to change their lives. The day, everyone will decide to unleash their potential and come out as a successful person, I will be the happiest person under the Sun.
Q13) What comes first for you? money or emotions?
For sure emotion. I wish to see everyone fearless, happy, doing what they are best to do and prosper every aspect of their Life.
Q14) Tell us about your early Life & How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?
During my corporate days, by the end of the month, a fixed salary was ensured, but I did not have freedom. I did not have time freedom; I did not have work freedom. I was working based on the time set by the organization and doing what was my KRA, whether I like to do that or not, that was immaterial. For taking leave, many times, I had to beg. On top of that, I was always on the edge of the sword. It was always scared if I lose the job one fine day! Because of these, the liberty to spend time with the family was also restricted.
Now, being an entrepreneur, the best part is, I am doing what I love to do. Secondly, I do not need to follow a timetable set by someone else. Even though during the early days, the income fluctuates, but having freedom gives immense satisfaction.
Q15) What piece of advice would you give to college graduates who want to become entrepreneurs??
In the first, you must identify what is that you are good at. Secondly, from there, identify your super niche. Being an entrepreneur is not easy in India because of a negative mindset. Until you are coming from a business family, our education system, society always produces laborer. So, the moment, you will decide to become an entrepreneur, there will be lots of pressure from everyone around you.
You first need to ask yourself, are you ready to take the risk? Secondly, first few years, you will have to work hard and cannot afford to lose hope. But the good thing is – if you are planning to get into service-based entrepreneurship, then with the Internet revolution, your monetary investment will be low, but the return will be high. So, keep a positive mind, be ready to face the social consequences, and work hard to fulfill your dream.
